My favorite memory of Robert Lynn Asprin

Robert passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the age of 61 in his New Orleans French Quarter home.

My favorite memory is from the annual Halloween Party at The Dungeon in 1994; that is how I will remember this sometimes insufferable but always interesting and thought-provoking friend.

Why I want to meet Bill Murray

“It just doesn’t matter!”—The perfect mantra.

Sublimely delivered; I still wonder how much of that monologue in “Meatballs” was ad-libbed…

A story about Chris Rose

I was in NOLA for a “family reunion” of sorts on November 18, 2007. While heading over to the Mojo Lounge for my favorite meal (Louis’ barbequed shrimp) I passed by a small bookstore on Decatur where a book-signing was scheduled for his re-released edition of ONE DEAD IN ATTIC… He’s taken to signing with “Peace, Love and Levees!” these days, that sweet guy!

A story about Neil Gaiman

While waiting to get my copy of Neverwhere autographed, a friend and I were keeping ourselves amused by discussing themed wedding chapels in Las Vegas; I’d mentioned that I found one that featured an angel motif that was emerging as a possible contender (...but that’s a story for another day). Neil was just a few feet away, apparently paying attention… When I presented my various books to him (including Angels & Visitations), he cocked his head and looked at me for a few seconds, then sketched an impromptu impressionistic seraphim on the fly page of the book, just for me.

A story about John Corbett

When Northern Exposure was all the rage during the early ‘90s, John was a semi-regular at the original Fenix Café in Seattle, WA (the Yesler Street location). Every time blues chanteuse Duffy Bishop performed, John would always make the time to dance with the bass player’s elderly mother, Shirley Lowe (who passed away during July 2006). This sweet gesture is still remembered.

(It was also amusing to watch casual Fenix Café patrons do a double-take when John would lend a hand washing glasses behind the bar!)

A story about John Wesley Harding

More of a comment, actually… In a word, simply, “Yum!”

Why I admire Chris Rose

He has consistently written some of the most poignant, real, and even sometimes laugh-out-loud funny post-Katrina coverage re: New Orleans, including the haunting collection entitled 1 Dead in Attic. In terms of what matters after The Thing, he’s got his finger on the pulse of the city’s recovery. I check his website at NOLA.com several times a week to keep in touch with the place where my heart lives: http://www.nola.com/rose/

A story about John Hiatt

Had the pleasure of telling him that one of the few regrets in my life is that he’s a happily married man, heh! “Have a Little Faith In Me” is one of the most amazing songs ever written, period.

A story about me

I’m a bit of a gypsy/trickster/aspiring fool. I’m described by my closest allies as being independent, smart, unconventional, creative, loyal and a force of nature not yet categorized. I seek out opportunities that challenge me to look beyond my own borders. I’m also an acquired taste, best experienced in real-time.

I’m petite with curves, strength and high energy; a bit of a tomboy, but I clean up nicely. I’m fair-skinned, decorated with constellations of freckles and a few tattoos. My hair enjoys a life of its own as a mane of curls; I’m just along for the ride.

Things I enjoy as often as possible include tangerine juice, live music, photography, cooking, dancing, ethnic cuisine, indie movies, meteor showers, designing/flying kites, traveling, swimming, hiking and road trips (with or without a particular destination in mind).

The chance you get is the chance you take; c’est la vie.
